Ranger Spells - Level 2 - Resist Elements - To me, this is the same as the spell above, but only 20 damage. Ranger Spells - Level 2 - Protection From Elements - I never quite understood these protection spells, but this one was easy to understand - you get protected up to 30 damage from elements! Fascinating. Ranger Spells - Level 2 - Hold Animal - Im sure its useful, but I didnt use it. This increases your dexterity, which is very usefull for when you use your bow or when you need better reflex saving throws. Ranger Spells - Level 2 - Cats Grace - Very usefull, more than some would think. Ranger Spells - Level 1 - Summon Creature I - A little more usefull than any other spell for Level 1, this summons upon a Dire Badger to help you. Ranger Spells - Level 1 - Grease - Can be usefull if you are facing a fast enemy, but otherwise really is not. Id stick with the healing spell or Summonings. Ranger Spells - Level 1 - Entangle - I didnt use this spell at all. Ranger Spells - Level 1 - Cure Light Wounds - Helpful for when you need a quick heal and are out of potions, but really doesnt cure much for when you aquire it. I myself chose Daelan to be my main man, sometimes using Linu when there are Undead. If you want someone of pure power, Daelan Red Tiger is the obvious choice. If you like being healed, Linu the Cleric is the way to go. Tomi, the Rogue, works very well if you dont plan on taking any skill points in Rogue skills. Depending on your skills, there are a couple of Henchman that could be quite useful to you. Henchman - Ah, so we have finally arived at Henchman. Once a day, you can summon upon one of many animals to help you in battle, and in scouting. Ranger Abilities - Animal Companion - Animal Companion is gained at level six and is very usefull. A favored enemy is a type of monster you get Spot bonuses, Listen bonuses, Taunt bonuses, Damage bonuses. At the first level and every five levels after that, you get to choose a favored enemy. Ranger Abilities - Favored Enemies - Very usefull. ![]() Just keep in mind that this isnt something you choose, you get these automatically! IIA2. If you plan on Hiding or Moving Silently alot, then this helps you do those 2 things in the woods or wooded areas. Ranger Abilities - Trackless Step - This skill can either be very usefull, or completely useless. Weapon Focus is very helpful for whatever weapon you plan on using most Weapon Specialization in the same light. Rapid Shot if you plan on using your bow at all, Point Blank Shot, too. You'll want Cleave if you plan on Meeleing lots. As far as feats go, you start out with Ambidexterity and Two-Weapon Fighting, so dont worry about those. Heal is nice simply because healing kits are cheaper than potions, work very well, and cure poisons and diseases, too - heal helps you improve your healing ability. As for skills, Animal Empathy is good if you like to posses other Animals to aid you, Disable Trap and Pick Locks is nice if you want a little Rogue-like twist on your character, thus not needing Tomi much and being able to use other Henchman (discussed later). Str to help you prevail in combat, Dex to give you a good AC boost and to help with your archery, and Wis for your Ranger spells. ![]() Str, Dex, and Wis are all important here. Race - Now that I, hopefully, got you hooked on a Ranger, you may be wondering what race would do nicely for the Ranger. With the ability to go in close, stay at a distance, and even cast some spells, Rangers make a great choice for SP or MP alike. Not only can they prevail in Meele, but they are also adept at using the bow to snipe at their enemies. The Ranger starts off with bonus feats that let you get a head start on two weapon fighting : Ambidexterity and Two-Weapon Fighting, and automaticaly gain Improved Two-Weapon Fighting at level 9. First off, if you plan on using two weapons in battle, the Ranger is the only way to go. Why A Ranger? - So by now, you may be asking yourself why you want to create a ranger. ![]()
